Somali Chess President accuses government forces of illegally arresting sports individuals.
 


 


President of Somali Chess federation On Monday accuses Somali transitional government of illegally jailing some of the Nation's sporting individuals.

“This is a kind of suffocating Somalia's sporting activities and we are calling for Somali government to apologize for the arrest of two main Somali sports writers” said Somali chess federation President Dr. Ahmed Abdi Hassan “Wataac” in a press conference on Monday 21st of April 2008.

“Formerly Somali government imprisoned sporting leaders in the Hiiran region accusing them of electing an administrative board with out noticing regional administration and that was a great mistake” the president said once again.

“Sport has no borders, no religion and has nothing to do with governments, so that we are demanding all sides involved in Somali conflicts and in particular the Somali transitional government to let the sporting people do their job freely” the president added.

The Somali chess federation president's speech came days after Somali policeF detained and then released President and first vice president of Somali sports press association Muse Mohamed Osman and Shafici Mohyaddin Abokar “Islow”.

President of Somali chess federation Dr Ahmed Abdi Hassan said that it is an irregular step to jail such individuals who day and night dedicate them selves of presenting the news of Somalia's reviving sport to the world after more than 17 years of armed conflicts ravaged the lawless horn of African country of Somalia.
